Democracy can make anyone hungry - but we've got you covered! The Grand Council Cafe, DebatePlate, is located on level 1 of the building in reception (just behind the Visitor Services Counter).
The Democracy Shop has a wide range of gifts and souvenirs to complete your visit and make it that much more memorable. The shop is located right next door to DebatePlate.

Getting to the Council
Parking
Parking is available in the Magna Carta Park carpark, behind the Grand Council building. Parking is free on weekends and public holidays and free for the first 3 hours on weekdays. |
Taxi or Ride Share
A taxi rank is located at the front of the Grand Council building, in Constituents Court. The local taxi service is CC's (Central Cabs) and can be contacted at 13 CABS (13 2227). Additionally, both Uber & Lift operate in the Central Region. |
Public Transport
A bus stop is located in Constituents Court. The N1 Service of ShoalBus operates between the Grand Council building and downtown Arwon. The nearest train station is Central Station, and you can then get the N1 bus from there. |
Accessibility
All staircases in the Grand Council building have now been replaced with lifts. The building is entirely disability accessible.
Wheelchairs can be borrowed for free from the Visitor Services Counter in reception.
Hearing loops are available in the viewing galleries when the Council is sitting.
Guide & Assistance animals are all welcomed.

Tours
Tours operate daily around every 30 minutes. Tours are free of charge and depart from the Visitor Services Counter in reception. To organise special group, private or school tours, please contact the Grand Council through the Contact page on this website (please note, a fee will apply for special tours).
Conditions of Entry
Visitors must go through security screening and inspection of personal possessions.
Prohibited or offensive implements, drugs, or other substances are not permitted and must be surrendered to the Council Security Service Officer.
Visitors must comply with any reasonable directions given by a Council Security Service Officer or member of the Central Region Police Service.
Facial identification may be required upon request by a Council Security Service Officer or member of the Central Region Police Service before entry.
Demonstrations or protests are not permitted within the Grand Council Precinct.
Visitors to private areas must be accompanied and must present appropriate photo identification.
Security Screening
Security screening ensures a safe environment for both visitors and council staff. The time that this takes varies with the number of people waiting to come in, but please allow at least 15 minutes when planning your visit.
No Smoking
Smoking is not permitted within the Grand Council building, Constituents Court or Magna Carta Park.

You are welcome to take photos or video in the public areas of the Grand Council building, provided they are for private use and not for publication.
However, please note that no photography or filming of security arrangements or chamber proceedings is allowed.
